Overview
[18F]-FE-PE2I is a fluorine-18 labeled radiopharmaceutical that acts as a highly selective and potent radioligand for the dopamine transporter (DAT). Developed at the Karolinska Institutet, it is used as a diagnostic imaging agent in positron emission tomography (PET) to visualize and quantify DAT density in the brain, particularly within the nigrostriatal pathway. This imaging is highly valuable for the differential diagnosis of parkinsonian syndromes (such as Parkinson's disease, multiple system atrophy, and progressive supranuclear palsy) from other conditions like essential tremor, and for tracking disease progression.
